The custom of exchanging business cards at professional gatherings has been a long-standing tradition. Although smartphones have made exchanging phone numbers easier, there is still no convenient way to instantly share all relevant information such as social profiles and email IDs. This is where Indore-based technology company TapOnn steps in with a solution that seeks to revolutionize the traditional business card exchange practice and allow individuals to easily share their complete professional information in one go.
Dhruv Jolly, Co-founder of TapOnn stated “Effective networking is not happening because there is no efficient way of getting connected or sharing information,”
He added, a photographer would want to highlight his Instagram or Pinterest profile instead of just a phone number. “There’s a very big demand and a very big gap in terms of networking,” he added.
TapOnn, has raised $150,000 in angel funding for its innovative solution to exchanging business cards. The firm utilizes Near-Field Communication (NFC) to create a smart card or coin that allows users to instantly share their contact information. Once the profile is created on the dedicated app, users can choose which social profiles, email IDs, and other details they want to share and pair it with the accessory.

These cards can be personalized and in case the recipient’s phone doesn’t have NFC, a link or QR code can be sent to them via the app, which opens on the default browser, eliminating the need for the recipient to download the app. The app also provides analytics and insights into how many times a card has been tapped, making it useful for tracking networking and business meeting effectiveness.
Jolly disclosed that the company has already sold more than 500 TapOnn cards since its launch in November 2022. He added that the company is currently keeping the application free to use but at some point in the future it will consider launching a subscription-based model wherein premium users will get more features, possibly a free bundled smart card.
Some of the future features on the cards (pun intended) are personalized URLs for sharing (akin to Linktree), more customizable profiles and cards, a map to spot nearby friends (similar to Snap’s Map), and the ability to add more information to the user profiles, among others.
Jolly announced that TapOnn is venturing into the B2B market and aims to create a unified platform for companies to manage their employee’s smart cards through a single dashboard. The company will integrate its API with the firm’s CRM and automation software, making it easier for employees to schedule events, update contact information, and automate their marketing. TapOnn is entering a market valued at $242.3 million by 2027, which already has several players offering digital visiting cards, such as Scube which provides personalized cards with embedded QR codes.
