Meesho and Valmo team up for affordable logistics solutions

SoftBank-backed ecommerce startup Meesho has ventured into the logistics industry through its collaboration with supply chain service Valmo, with the aim of offering cost-effective solutions to startups and small and medium enterprises. The partnership seeks to establish a logistics marketplace to make demand accessible to local players by eliminating entry barriers. “Valmo’s disaggregated network will help maintain low costs per shipment even with volatile demand patterns,” stated the company.

Meesho’s entry into logistics is anticipated to reduce the cost of running businesses for its portfolio of over 1.1 million ecommerce sellers and decrease shipment costs by 5-7% compared to other major players, according to Sourabh Pandey, CXO of Fulfilment and Experience at Meesho. Pandey emphasized that “Meesho’s technology capabilities, along with a well-defined network of sorting centres, will help keep costs down and create efficiencies in the supply chain.”

Over the past year, Meesho has been developing its logistics platform and onboarding clients. To date, the platform has successfully onboarded nearly 3,000 local and regional entrepreneurs across 6,000 pin codes in 20 states. The company has fulfilled more than 9 lakh shipments, resulting in indirect employment for nearly 35,000 individuals in the last year.

Valmo, founded on the premise of the logistics sector’s rapid growth and immense potential to expand local and regional capacity, according to Pandey, is positioned to capitalize on India’s burgeoning logistics sector, projected to reach $330 billion by 2025 by Redseer Strategy Consultants.
