IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Appears to confirm a 5G Rollout By October 12

Telecom carriers in India, including Reliance Industries’ Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), are preparing to introduce 5G services. The Indian government has provided a timetable for the official introduction of 5G services in the country. Speaking to the media, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that 5G services will be available in India by October 12, with the entire country being covered in two to three years. The Union Minister stated that installations are underway, and telecom providers are hard at work to ensure the seamless rollout of 5G services, which he anticipates will remain inexpensive to consumers. “The government would make sure that 5G plans remain cheap for the general public,” the minister stated, according to IANS.

The minister’s remarks came as the government announced the “Indian Telegraph Right of Way (Amendment) Rules, 2022” and released the 5G RoW Application Form on the GatiShakti Sanchar Portal. According to reports, the Indian Telegraph Right of Way (Amendment) Rules, 2022, will aid the telecom industry in the rapid proliferation of digital infrastructure, deployment of tiny cells, aerial fiber, and street furniture. The amendment also includes a provision for the installation of tiny cells, electric poles, and access to street furniture to facilitate the deployment of 5G networks across the country.

It is worth noting that the Indian government has already stated that 5G services will be phased out throughout the country. In India’s initial phase of 5G deployment, 13 cities will receive 5G services. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune are among them.

To provide users with access to 5G networks, telecom providers are anticipated to develop specialized tariff plans — both prepaid and postpaid. The procedure is anticipated to be similar to how telecom companies in the country introduced 4G and 3G tariff options. While the Union Telecom Minister has stated that 5G tariff plans will stay inexpensive in the country, Airtel has stated that it will launch 5G networks in India at higher-cost tariff plans. Bharti Airtel Vice-Chairman Akhil Gupta stated that the company intends to offer 5G services in India at higher tariff options.
