- ByStartupStory | August 29, 2022

PM Modi at an event, commemorating the 40 years of Maruti Suzuki and the launching of the carmaker’s EV plant said, “Be it two-wheelers or four-wheelers, they don’t make any noise. This silence is not only about its engineering, but also the beginning of a silent revolution in the country,”.
“To boost supply, work is also being carried out at a fast pace to introduce production-linked incentive schemes in automobile and automobile components manufacturing,” the Prime Minister said.
In this context, the government has unveiled a number of programmes for the EV industry.
The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME)-II initiative seeks to hasten the adoption and production of electric and hybrid vehicles, as the name implies. Government statistics show that since the program’s commencement, 4.75 lakh sales from 58 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have been recorded.

Ola Electric, Reliance New Energy, and Rajesh Exports have signed on to produce 98 GWh of battery capacity under the INR 18,100 Cr-PLI plan.
The government would provide the incentive over a five-year period on the sale of batteries made in India, and these companies will have two years to set up a manufacturing facility.
The government is also developing a new set of standards for EV batteries in relation to the battery issue. In India, there were more than 30 instances of EVs catching fire throughout the summer.
Other states and localities are also moving to increase the number of electric vehicle sales and registrations around the nation. By 2024, the national capital region will have some 18,000 public and semi-public EV charging outlets installed, according to a recent announcement from the Delhi government.
Two-wheeler electric vehicle registrations in India increased 5% to 44,428 units in July 2022.
