DUX Education, Edtech Startup, to Cease Operations in April

DUX Education, a startup offering K-12 edtech solutions, has announced that it will cease operations in April 2023 due to the current funding challenges in the Indian startup landscape. The closure is a result of the company’s inability to secure financing, and it will continue to operate until March 2023.

According to DUX Education’s founder, Rohit Jain, the company has made the difficult decision to shut down due to funding difficulties in the Indian startup industry. In an interview with Inc42, Jain stated that they recognized the challenges of securing funding six months ago and have been managing operations since then. The edtech startup will continue to operate until March 31 to support its student and parent user base during the current academic year.

DUX Education’s founder, Rohit Jain, has revealed that the founding team has forgone salaries over the last six months to avoid staff layoffs during the startup’s funding crisis. The Bengaluru-based edtech company was established in 2020 during the pandemic by Jain, along with Udit Chaturvedi and Manika Tiwari, and provides K-12 students with online classes based on school curricula.

DUX Education’s founder, Rohit Jain, stated that the startup had implemented effective systems and processes from its inception, operating with just 10% of the workforce of its closest competitor at a comparable scale. Despite launching in the pandemic year of 2020, DUX Education reportedly enrolled over 15,000 students, with more than half hailing from Tier-I and Tier-II cities and 40% from Tier-III and beyond.

According to the statement by the startup, it currently has nine employees overseeing more than 250 online batches. The company has also disclosed that it received INR 2 crore in funding from Malpani Ventures, an angel investment firm. The founders of the startup have prior experience working with prominent companies such as Ola, Zoomcar, PhonePe, EY, McKinsey, and Accenture.

DUX has recently joined the increasing number of startups that have shut down their operations. Fipola, a meat delivery D2C startup, also recently announced the cessation of its operations. In the edtech sector, several companies including LIDO Learning, Udayy, Crejo.Fun, SuperLearn, and Qin1 have closed their doors in 2022.
