The Ministry of Defence has approved a budget of Rs. 700 crores for the procurement of drones

The Defence Ministry has proposed a fresh Rs 28,732 crore budget for military equipment acquisition, including a ₹ 700 crore proposal to buy swarm drones. Drones, according to the Defence Acquisitions Council (DAC), have proven a force multiplier in combats all over the world.

According to the Times of India, the DAC’s acceptance of this acquisition budget is the first stage in the Indian military’s bigger arms procurement procedure. These approvals will be utilized for a variety of projects that fall within the Buy-Indian IDDM (indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured) and Buy (Indian) categories.

Defence has approved a budget of Rs. 700 crores for the procurement of drones

A budget of Rs 700 crore was suggested by the DAC for “autonomous surveillance & armed drone swarms.” The military forces already have collaborations with several indigenous drone firms. Garuda Aerospace announced earlier this week a trial program for surveillance and even beyond visual line of sight operations to deliver supplies including supplies and medications in high-altitude zones. Last week, Sagar Defence Engineering flew India’s first passenger drone next to Prime Minister Modi.

According to reports, the Rs 700 crore fund will not be spent anytime soon since the Indian drone sector is still developing supply capacities to meet that level of demand. The whole drone sector offered products and services of ₹ 80 crores in the previous year, a figure that is likely to expand many times in the coming years.
