Under DISC Challenge, Ministry of Defence to back Indian Tech Startups

Under the iDEX programme, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in a bid to support Indian startups, has launched the sixth edition of the Defence Indian Startup Challenge (DISC).
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) will be backing startups that can offer software solutions such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), autonomous unmanned systems, advanced imaging, sensor systems, big data analytics, and secured communication systems to the Indian military, in this challenge.
To support Indian startups by offering financial assistance in the range of INR 1.5 Cr to INR 10 Cr has been aimed by MoD, under this challenge.
The Indian Coast Guard, organisations working under the Ministry of Home Affairs, three services and some defence public sector are the seven newly-formed defence companies, undertakings are heading the challenge.

Startups and innovators were asked to resolve 35 problem statements (PS) from armed forces and OFB/DPSUs, in the fifth edition of the DISC challenge. These challenges were real-life problems faced by the Indian Army, Indian Airforce, Indian Navy, MDL, MIDHANI, HAL, BEL, HSL, and GRSE.
Under the iDEX initiative, by MoD and Atal Innovation Mission, Defence India Startup Challenge was launched. To support MSMEs, Indian startups, and innovators that create prototypes, commercial products and solutions in the defence and aerospace sector has been aimed by it.
iDEX, founded in 2018, engages startups, MSMEs, R&D initiatives, individual innovators, and academia and in order to create tech solutions that can be adopted by defence and aerospace sectors, it provided them financial assistance.
