Kerala builds the largest ‘digital hub’ in South India; eyes 15,000 startups by 2026

Kochi is now the largest digital hub in South India. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the digital hup on 18th September. The state-of-the-art complex in the Technology Innovation Zone at Kalamassery under the State Startup Mission will be equipped with state-of-the-art incubators, accelerators, and centers of excellence.
Covering an area of two lakh square feet, the new building will be able to accommodate 200 startups in addition to the 165 startups currently in the integrated startup complex. The digital hub will include a design incubator, a healthcare incubator, a center of excellence for mouse electronics, design studios, a specialty for investors, and an innovation center.
The center will become a unified hub for product design and development in the software and hardware sectors. The center will operate on state-of-the-art technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics-augmented reality, the Internet of Things, and language processing. Initially, it will house 200 startups that will directly employ 2,500 people. In the future, it aims to house 15,000 startups by 2026.
The goal behind the digital hub is to bring everything from conceptualization to product-based business model under one umbrella. The digital environment in the state is rich with excellent skills, excellence in engineering design, digital fabrication network, super fabrication lab, hardware incubator called Maker Village, small manufacturing facilities, and industrial corridor.
The Technology Innovation Zone is located on 13.2 acres in the Kalamassery Kinfra Hi-Tech Park. The total size of the zone is four lakh square feet. It currently houses an integrated startup complex and biotechnology incubation center with an area of 2.3 lakh square feet.
