Vivek took Startup Story through his journey, he told us he always wanted to start his venture and be a businessman. ‘That is how I always pictured myself; running some kind of a business.’ He did his master’s in Economics and MBA. He has also done PGP in Management from IMI-Belgium. He hails from Bihar. Vivek said that in Bihar parents have high expectations from their children of getting a quintessential job such as a government job. ‘Now, can you imagine the pressure of telling your parents that you want to start your business? My brother and I gathered a lot of courage, and we finally had to break the news to them. So, after a lot of debates, discussions, analysis, and dialogues. Here we are! Today, Careerera is a Globally known EdTech company.’ Before Careerera, Vivek owned an online career counseling firm and that’s where he got the experience into online education world.

Spark Of An Idea

When Startup Story asked Vivek about the idea behind the setup of Careerera he replied, ‘I have always been keen and focused on my goals right from my teenage days, and I did not let go of that passion and levitated Careerera.’ His first business gave him a first-hand experience and insight into an individual’s struggle in the outside world. Difficulties which they face in bagging a job or getting an appraisal due to lack of skills, despite having a degree.

He realized that there’s a need to introduce upskill programs for the students to make them industry-ready, without losing their current jobs and study at their comfort. Vivek believes Students need to be trained in such a way that can help them move up the global corporate ladder.

Market Expansion And Funding

On asking about Careerera’s process of market expansion by Startup Story Vivek said, we are going to increase the number of courses and expand our geographical boundaries. Earlier the company used to cover Tier I and Tier II cities in India but now the target will be Tier III and Tier IV cities. Realizing the barriers caused by languages in learning we are going to introduce our courses in different languages so that more people will be able to avail upskill courses. This provision is made so that bright students are not deprived of technical education due to a lack of knowledge of the English language. Training conducted in the native language of the learner could be easily understandable and applied easily at work. Learners would be able to give their complete attention to the content in their native language, without needing to mentally translate the information into their first language.

Vivek told the Startup Story about funding that Careerera is a fully bootstrapped company. ‘We started with extremely limited resources. But with the help of our dedicated team, our journey became successful. All of our energy goes into the services that we provide, not into pitching venture capitalists or other potential sources of capital investment.  We are looking forward to achieving a target of 100 crores in the coming 1.5 years. Once we reach our target, we will plan for funding.’

How Does Careerera Help Its Students To Overcome The Hurdles Faced By Them?

Lack of learning equipment with learners, like slow internet, laptops, etc. along with basic knowledge of computers has always been a challenge for the students. So, we try to overcome these issues by providing educational loans to the students so that they don’t face such hurdles while acquiring knowledge.
