App for making short videos Chingari has raised $15 million in a Series A extension round


The funds will be used to improve and integrate new in-app features, develop the backend technology team, and bolster marketing campaigns for 2022, according to an official statement from the firm. Onmobile, JPIN Venture Catalysts, Hill Harbour, Angellist, Venture Collective, Makan Family, Cowa Ventures, MVC Friends, Protocol Labs, and other HNI family offices were among the investors in the round, which was led by Republic Capital.

Chingari will use the majority of the funding to improve the technology on the app, create new features, and expand the backend tech team by appointing the best talent in AI and ML with the goal of further enriching its user experience. Another major area of focus for the company is to expand marketing initiatives in order to enhance the brand’s reach even further into Bharat’s roots by making it a favourite among Tier III and IV audiences.

With recent advances in technology, the app plans to launch live-streaming, socio-commerce, and audio chat features soon, which will help creators increase their viewer engagement rates while also allowing top brands and companies to collaborate with the app and its creators, ushering in the next big phase of the creator economy.

In the presence of its brand ambassador Salman Khan, chingari just unveiled $GARI, a crypto-token. The goal of $Gari is to make content monetization more common in India.

Since April 2021, Chingari claims to have had a two-fold rise in its number of users, with over 110 million downloads. With over 35 million monthly active users (MAUs), the app is now looking into different ways to improve user engagement across India. It plans to increase its user base to 200 million or more by the end of 2022.

Because of the increased demand for regional content in India, Chingari wants to expand its local content inventory by deploying 20+ languages on the platform. The app’s marketing efforts will be focused on promoting the brand and enticing inventive and talented producers from all corners of the country to create interesting content in their native languages for viewers.
