Newzera | Modern social network of News for Gen-Z

“Today, Gen Zers don’t take out time to read the news. Instead, they consume the news on the go. They want the news to be fun, fast and social. They want to be the first ones to know what’s happening and discuss it with their friends. Gen Z is indeed a curious generation.” Shrey Sharma, Founder and CEO Newzera

The Calm Before The Storm

It’s not breaking news to say that the definition of entertainment and the way we consume media have radically changed over the last two decades.

What is intriguing, however, is that while consumption patterns have evolved along with technology advancements, those patterns are not consistent across generations.

Born and brought up in a world of technology, Gen Z’s news consumption goes beyond seeking just facts. Gen Zers want nuances in a world of bite-sized information. They want an easy way to share content and connect with their circle of people.

For Gen Z, who want the experience of news to feel as smooth and accessible as Facebook and Netflix, it isn’t surprising that they turn to social media for news consumption.

The Tragedy

Unfortunately, what Gen Zers face on social media is an attack of fake news, politically skewed information, clickbait, opinions over facts, influencers twisting the news for likes and comments, and much more.

According to Reuters Digital news report 2021, today 63% of the population solely uses social media as their primary source of news, and half of the population of the country is below 28.

What was interesting to Shrey was that news is the main reason to use social media and yet according to YPulse’s Gen Z & Millennials Have Very Different News Sources Study social media is constantly losing traction with Gen Z.

“There’s a kind of existential crisis amongst the social networks today. When a platform that was meant to get updates about your friends is being used for an entirely different purpose then the flow of news ought to be poor .”

Newzera To The Rescue

Newzera is an India-based startup that offers a new format of news. It is a modern social network designed exclusively for news for Gen Z. Here, the news is generated with the help of human-centered AI which provides an intelligent and effective way to reinstate the cycle of news generation and consumption.

Newzera uses proprietary deep learning algorithms to scan the entire web and condense the information into short, crisp and verified updates packaged into a new visual card-style format for faster consumption.Newzera’s mission is to provide news that adapts to the lifestyle and the needs of the Gen Zers, whether it’s staying up-to-date or reading in between breaks.

Thus, with Newzera, Gen Zers will have the power of choice to discover, consume and engage with news that is socially shareable and suits their needs.

Gen Zers often feel consuming news is a chore. For instance, if someone who hasn’t read about the Russia-Ukraine conflict until now tries doing it, they wouldn’t be able to keep up with the sea of information present on the internet regarding the topic.

But with Newzera, the Gen Zers have the option of following a well-maintained timeline of any news event for their better understanding.

The users don’t need to seek out the news with Newzera, the news will come to them!

“Newzera is hence unleashing a whole new spectrum of news–News 3.0”

The evolution of online news is categorized into three generations with the first being News 1.0 which started around the time when the internet and PCs were thriving. During the phase of News 1.0, there was a push to digitize what was in print media, and the consumption of news was dedicated, time-bound, and ritualized.

The second generation of news i.e, News 2.0 is what we currently have. The phase is largely dominated by mobile internet and social networking apps acting as the primary source of news. In this phase, Gen Z whose news consumption is fragmented throughout the day has replaced journalists with their friends and influencers.

What Newzera is doing in all of this madness is contributing its bit by bringing the best of both the worlds, by combining the technology revolution with fast mobile internet and giving birth to News 3.0.

The Man With A Plan

Newzera is the brainchild of Shrey, a dual degree holder in computer science from one of India’s top colleges, IIT Kharagpur. After building his arsenal on the academic front, Shrey furthered his skills working at some of the most exciting places, collaborating with the best minds at Pinterest and Amazon.

But an inventor and Indian at heart, he decided to pack his bags and head home to make his dreams of building a better world into reality, and revolutionize the meaning of news.

When describing his team, Shrey says,

“We’ve got an exceptionally talented bunch of software engineers, journalists, writers, and designers all working together to make Newzera a one-stop solution for all social experiences related to the news. Newzera’s team is, just like its product, the perfect blend.”

But bringing a deep tech startup into Indian, or rather any market is no easy feat. It takes years of effort, research, and development. Being the CEO of such a startup, Shrey is no stranger to challenges. But, he isn’t one to back down from obstacles. Shrey’s ‘never giving up-spirit’ has resulted in AngelList, a US website for startups, angel investors, and job-seekers ranking Newzera among the best startups not only in India but globally. Newzera has also been declared the number one startup on the AngelList talent platform, globally, for inbound jobs interest for the month of March 2022.

Not only that, AngelList has also included Newzera in its AngelList Early Stage Quant Fund, an initiative by the angel investment platform to scout the best startups early on.

We’re excited to invest in Newzera. We believe that exceptional people build exceptional companies, and we know from our hiring data that the company ranks among the best startups—not just in India but globally—in attracting top talent. In March, Newzera’s posted jobs had the most inbound applicants among the 30,000+ startups hiring on AngelList Talent.”

Newzera Is Unlike Others

Using state-of-the-art technology, Newzera removes repeated news and replaces it with a never-ending fresh flow of information that is better matched with the interests of its reader. Newzera’s interface is clean, sharp, and fresh to keep up with the best of apps that Gen Z uses.

What sets Newzera apart from its competitors isn’t just the news, the technology, or the UI/UX of the app. Rather, what sets it apart is the coming together of all of these elements and more, to create a network like no other, to being the fist and the only ones to usher in an era of News 3.0.

Newzera | Simplifying news

Newzera offers what you should know (to an extent), but also what is useful to know, what is interesting to know, and what is fun to know.

“In short, Newzera makes staying ‘woke’, accurate, easy and fun!”
