DishaGig, one-stop marketplace for the growing gig work industry

“To bring new entrepreneurs into the market, a startup’s focus should be on developing products that meet market needs, generate revenue, and create a sensible scaling strategy.” – Mayur Potdar, Founder of DishaGig in an exclusive interview with Startup Story.

Mayur Potdar, from Pune, Maharashtra. He graduated from REVA University Bengaluru with a Master’s degree in Biotechnology.

Mr Potdar began working as an Educational Consultant in Bangalore during his postgraduate studies, where he guided rural students in pursuing education in Tier 1 city colleges, providing whatever assistance was required by the students, such as arranging college visits, understanding admissions processes, enrolling, financial assistance via educational loans, assistance for housing, and many other things that would make the students’ lives easier.

While doing so, he realized that the actual issue is employment, as students are unable to locate suitable career opportunities even after receiving a great education from reputable colleges.

That’s when he resolved to fix the problem and go to work when he discovered that there are primarily two types of job:

Full-time employment, in which you work for a corporation for 9 hours a day and are compensated.

Freelance or Gig Work: where you work on a task-by-task basis and get paid after the task is completed.

Mayur was more interested in the second category since it has a strong development potential but is not an organized sector.

India has the world’s second-largest Gig Economy, according to a recent survey. The gig economy in India’s non-farm sector can sustain up to 90 million jobs, according to a joint study by the Boston Consulting Group and the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. This equates to a working volume of more than $250 billion, which may boost India’s GDP by 1.25 per cent.

What this sector lacks is a trustworthy face to gather such work and make it easily available to those seeking it. DishaGig stepped in as an idea, research, and startup in this situation.

Mr Potdar discussed three factors for individuals and new entrepreneurs in an exclusive interview with Startup Story, he explained.

” The three aspects I would like to share are to explore for opportunities; the second is to work smartly to reach a large audience, and the third is to stay in an ecosystem at all times. You’ll be able to grow together if you stay linked.”
