Having worked with reputed international brands like the Eastern Europe-based auto components distributor intercars.eu, Oleksandr Danylenko moved on from his job to realize his dream of setting up his own business. His entrepreneurial spirit instigated him to explore suitable business opportunities across the world.

Alongside his partner Yevhen Sokolnikov, Oleksandr Danylenko came to India from Ukraine to scout business prospects, particularly in the eCommerce area.

While in India, Oleksandr and Yevhen intended to setup up a general eCommerce firm, but upon initial research on probable business avenues, the Indian auto spare parts market exhibited itself to be the fastest-growing. The auto spare parts market was unorganized and held enormous potential provided the industry was digitalized to provide a platform that enabled customers to find and buy auto spare parts that could reach them on time, every time. Subsequently, boodmo as we know it;  India’s leading online marketplace for auto spare parts was born. Originating from Ukrainian, boodmo best translates to “let us be”; an expression of positivity and hope, but it is also a call to action that inspires. It invites prosperity and collective action. The boodmo marketplace offers authentic auto components without endorsing any specific vendor or seller. All products offered on its platforms are sorted according to a carefully organized catalog and filtered to the preferences of its customers. All customers are protected by a 10-day return policy encouraging them to buy with confidence and are supported by an efficient customer support team available on all days across the calendar. 

On the flip side, the platforms’ debut in 2015, was rather challenging. According to Oleksandr, the team spent a lot of time painstakingly compiling an online spare parts directory and onboarding authentic vendors and sellers. 

Monetary losses in Covid-19

When the year 2020 saw a nationwide lockdown, boodmo experienced a slowdown in demand. The operations were entirely shut down, with no sales for over two months. However, the silver lining was that people spent more time online and began looking for spare parts on the internet. At the same time, manufacturers cautiously understood the power of emerging sales channels and became open for a direct relationship with the online marketplace by participating in marketing activities and working on improving their products’ online presentation.

Challenges that venture faced in the Indian market

The auto market in Ukraine is very different from that of India due to its long history of strong competition. In India however, boodmo had the first movers advantage and could operate as a pioneer, working hard on establishing online market trust.

“We constantly work on improving our offer and service quality and speed,” Oleksandr Danylenko said while talking to us. “We never make any compromises when it comes to customer satisfaction. We analyze each mistake seriously in order to learn and provide better service in the future. We’ve never had a single complaint about a bogus part or a mock-up product so far.” he also added.

Working and future plans

Periodic Maintenance parts, lubricants, brakes, suspension, body, electric components and lighting, are just a few examples of product categories available on boodmo platforms’. The brand is already conceptualizing pathways for launching auto parts in commercial vehicles and two-wheeler segments in the near future. Oleksandr further stated potential partnerships – “We are already tied up with more than 20 market brands, because of such partnerships, we now have a stronger chance of growing in the online market.”

From the service perspective, boodmo is going to offer booking of installation of purchased parts, pick-up points and fast delivery in its hubs’ vicinity. 

Boodmo already has operations in Delhi, Jaipur, and Bengaluru. and plans to add a hub in Maharashtra in the year 2022.
