How this AI powered startup is redefining safety measures- following Mirrag.AI on its journey since inception

“Just like the fighter plane Mirage helped the Indian defence forces to emerge victorious in the Kargil War thus saving multiple lives, the motto of our company is to enable security and safety which thereby helps save lives of numerous workers on ground,” said Amrita Sinha, the Founder & CEO of Mirrag AI in an exclusive interview with Startup Story Media.

The onset of the global pandemic has brought forth various speculations and controversies surrounding the safety of employees and the labour working on ground in the industrial sector. It is noteworthy to point out that the Indian industrial segment lacks adequate resources to back up the safety of the employees as well as the infrastructure. It is shocking to note that 4 workers give in to the cruel hands of death every minute owing to workplace accidents which in turn causes $171 billion of monetary losses to organisations every year. In an attempt to highlight issues of employee safety and emphasize upon the benefits that AI can deliver, Mirrag.AI was conceived.

Founded in May 2020, Mirrag is an AI powered entity which empowers organisations to manage workplace safety and compliances seamlessly. From Intrusion Detection to Staircase Safety and adherence to Industrial PPE, the platform adheres to the OSHA guidelines for safety measures and allows organisations to comply with the regulations being laid down by the regulatory bodies. Using a combination of data analysis and AI, the platform depicts the trends and assists organisations to take corrective action without capturing the Personal Identifiable Information, thus respecting the privacy of the individuals.

From alums to entrepreneurs

Founded by a graduate from Birla Institute of Technology, Amrita Sinha and IIT Bombay alumni, Udit Jain & Aditya Biniwale.

The principle that brought these three together to initiate a new venture was their common love for the realm of entrepreneurship and a cause to serve humanity. Furthermore, the Covid crisis aggravated their interest in entrepreneurship and gave them a platform to launch Mirrag.AI.

Mirrag was conceptualised when Covid was at its peak and people were scared to step out. While sitting together, the founders observed that there was barely any provision to ensure safety compliance within the industrial segment. That realisation enabled them to start their venture into the EHS domain. The brand has grown steadily and Mirrag has been working with MNCs like P&G, Schreiber Dynamix, Owens Corning and other conglomerates.

Channelizing the experience to an enterprise

Initially conceptualised as a covid focused AI powered product, Mirrag.AI has been able to diversify the portfolio into multiple spheres and launch products which offer safety, security, surveillance as well as risk minimization benefits to its clients. By leveraging the infinite scope of AI, the startup has developed diverse solutions for safety & security ranging from Intrusion Detection to Staircase Safety.

Highlighting the safety suite products that the startup offers, Mirrag forays into a myriad of products related to worker’s safety in general such as PPE Detection, License Plate Detection, Intrusion Detection and Staircase safety that ensures the workers’ compliance with norms necessitated by the regulatory bodies like OSHA and HSE. Mirrag offers an intuitive dashboard presenting insightful and comprehensive data to safety officers, which in turn facilitates informed decision making.

Mirrag uses an AI powered voice disseminator that cautions the individuals for every unsafe act and enables them to take corrective actions in real-time. Mirrag has developed the system in vernacular languages for easy understanding. Furthermore, the system also stores historical data to ensure that corrective measures can be undertaken, that too without compromising on the identity of the workers.

Sharing the stories of customer experience they’ve encountered so far, the founders have had an incredible journey. The team says that they did face a rocky start but have always been appreciated by the clients for the innovative solutions. More than 90 per cent of the prospective clients have loved Mirrag’s mission and have had great feedback on the same.

Funding and Finding future avenues

The deep-tech startup has received an angel investment from friends and family. Moving ahead, the startup may look for external sources of funding to grow exponentially.

Since its launch in May 2020 to the current date, Mirrag AI has come a long way along its journey. With massive potential to upscale and conquer the industrial sector with its unique AI powered solutions.

Decoding the future course of action that the startup wishes to tread along, Udit said, “Going forward we have plans to expand our reach geographically. We aim to grow our business across multiple countries after receiving success with Fortune 500 clients. Furthermore, we also aim to launch four new product categories namely Forklift Safety, Fire Detection, Housekeeping and Height based safety products. We also intend to enhance our current technology capabilities and R&D facilities.”
