Nintendo Raises Switch 2 Sales Forecast to 19 Million Units Amid Strong Momentum
Nintendo Co., the iconic Japanese gaming company, announced a substantial increase in its sales forecast for the Nintendo Switch 2 console, now anticipating 19 million units sold by the end of the fiscal year ending March 2026, up from the earlier projection of 15 million units. This revision reflects the console’s strong market performance and growing consumer enthusiasm since its launch in June 2025.
By September 30, 2025, Nintendo had already sold 10.36 million units of the Switch 2 worldwide, achieving this milestone in just over four months. This sales pace surpasses that of the original Nintendo Switch, which took approximately ten months to reach the same figure, and outpaces other major consoles like Sony’s PlayStation 5 during its release window.
The increase in hardware sales is complemented by robust software sales, with more than 20.6 million Switch 2 games sold in the first half of the fiscal year. Popular titles such as “Mario Kart World” and “Donkey Kong Bananza” have driven this success, with Mario Kart World selling around 9.57 million copies during the period.
Nintendo also adjusted its forecast for the original Switch hardware to 4 million units and increased software forecasts for the original Switch to 125 million units. Overall, the momentum around Switch 2 is a strong positive for Nintendo, contributing to a significant revenue and profit surge.
Financially, the company projects net sales of approximately 2.25 trillion yen ($14.6 billion) for the fiscal year, an increase from their prior estimate, alongside an upward revision of operating income and dividend payout ratios.
The Switch 2’s impressive sales trajectory cements its status as the fastest-selling gaming console in Nintendo’s history and highlights the company’s strong position in the competitive gaming console market.
In summary, Nintendo’s raised sales forecast to 19 million units for the Switch 2 demonstrates the console’s exceptional market acceptance and sets up the company for continued financial growth and market leadership in the gaming sector.
