Zomato Takes Strides Towards Inclusivity with Wheelchair-Accessible Rest Points for Delivery Partners

In a bid to enhance inclusivity and accessibility, Zomato, India’s leading food ordering and delivery platform, is undertaking an initiative to make its rest points in metro cities wheelchair accessible. The focus of this effort is to facilitate seamless movement for Zomato’s wheelchair-bound delivery partner fleet. The company has initiated this project by transforming two shelter points, located in Delhi and Bangalore, into barrier-free spaces for the convenience of wheelchair-bound delivery partners.

Zomato is committed to building inclusiveness across its value chain and aims to contribute to a more convenient infrastructure and built environment. Recognizing the potential of individuals with disabilities, the company has proactively taken steps to create a holistic and inclusive environment. Currently, Zomato’s fleet includes 300 persons with locomotor disabilities as delivery partners under its flagship project, ZEAL (Zomato’s Equitable Action for Livelihood).

As part of the ‘Shelter Project,’ launched earlier this year, these rest points are designed to provide a more supportive gig environment for the last-mile delivery partners of various companies. These wheelchair-accessible spaces offer well-ventilated environments equipped with comfortable seating, charging points, washrooms, high-speed internet, a helpdesk, first-aid support, free Wi-Fi, and access to food options. The purposeful design of the project includes dedicated spaces for delivery partners to rejuvenate and relax between deliveries, contributing to their physical and mental well-being.

Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Zomato, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive working environment. She stated, “By making these rest points wheelchair accessible, we are focused on empowering the last-mile delivery partners with various abilities.” Kumar expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Tejasvi Surya and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, who played key roles in revamping the shelter in Bangalore and New Delhi, respectively. She highlighted that as Zomato continues to grow, the initiative will expand to accommodate the diverse needs of delivery partners.
