Zomato Launches ‘District’ App on Android and App Store to Expand Its Going-Out Business

Foodtech giant Zomato has officially rolled out its ‘District’ app on both Android and iOS platforms, marking a significant step in expanding its “going-out” business. This move comes more than three months after the company first announced the launch of the app.

Zomato’s strategic goal with the ‘District’ app is to position its going-out segment as the third largest business in its B2C portfolio. The app is designed to offer a seamless experience for customers, enabling them to discover and reserve tables at restaurants. In addition, users can book tickets for a wide range of events including movies, sports, live performances, and more.

The company’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, emphasized the importance of the new app, stating, “We are banking on our profitable dine-out business, which is operating at a run-rate of more than $500 Mn annualised gross order value.”

This app launch follows a series of new features that Zomato has rolled out to stay ahead of its competitors. Earlier this week, the company introduced the ‘Book Now, Sell Anytime’ feature on its main app, allowing users to buy event tickets in advance and re-sell them on the platform in case of any last-minute changes. Furthermore, Zomato launched ‘Food Rescue’ just a few days ago, a feature that lets users buy canceled food orders from nearby areas, helping reduce food wastage.

Zomato has also seen impressive growth, particularly in its quick commerce business Blinkit. The company reported a staggering 389% increase in net profit, which rose to INR 176 Crore in the second quarter of the financial year 2024-25, up from INR 36 Crore in the same period last year. Additionally, Zomato’s operating revenue surged by 68.5%, reaching INR 4,799 Crore in Q2 FY25, up from INR 2,848 Crore in Q2 FY24.

As Zomato continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the ‘District’ app is expected to play a crucial role in driving its going-out business and attracting more customers to the platform.
