Zappfresh Secures $4.3M Funding to Transform Indian Meat Delivery Landscape


DSM Fresh Foods, the entity behind the popular direct-to-consumer online meat delivery brand Zappfresh announced on Thursday that it has successfully raised INR 30 crore (approximately $4.3 million) in funding from a consortium of investors. Among the participants in this funding round are Ah! Ventures, HT Media, Unity SFB, and Heifer Impact.

Pranjit Talukdar, representing Heifer Impact, expressed optimism about the partnership with Zappfresh, stating, “Our partnership with Zappfresh is set to improve the livelihoods of many smallholder women backyard poultry producers in the country, helping them expand their market reach and generate substantial income.”

Zappfresh has ambitious plans for utilizing the newly secured funds, focusing on acquisitions, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades in both the North and South markets. The company also aims to introduce new product lines that align with the evolving needs and preferences of customers, providing them with more choices and convenience, according to a press release.

Deepanshu Manchanda, the founder of Zappfresh, expressed gratitude for the support from the new partners, emphasizing its significance in launching various strategic initiatives. Manchanda highlighted the broader impact of the collaboration, stating, “This collaboration will not only help us expand our reach but also build more traction in our diverse product portfolio, which includes poultry, goat meat, seafood, and ready-to-eat products. We are excited about the opportunities this partnership will unlock, allowing us to serve our customers better and redefine the meat delivery landscape in India.”

Zappfresh has gained popularity for offering a wide array of meat products, including chicken, mutton, seafood, and specialty meats.

In the broader startup landscape, recent funding activities include fintech startup Kiwi securing $13 million in funding led by Omidyar Network India. Additionally, Scapia raised $23 million in a funding round led by Elevation Capital and 3STATE Ventures, co-founded by Binny Bansal. The investment climate in India’s startup ecosystem continues to demonstrate robust support for companies across various sectors, reflecting the confidence of investors in the growth potential of innovative ventures.
