Wipro lets go of 452 freshers for poor performance in the internal test

Wipro confirmed on January 20 that it had let go of 452 freshers to whom it had made offers but had not yet onboarded. The freshmen were fired because they “performed poorly in assessments repeatedly, even after training,” according to the company.
Wipro includes assessments as part of the evaluation process to “align employees with the business objectives of the organization and client requirements,” according to its statement. “This systematic and comprehensive performance evaluation process triggers a series of actions, such as mentoring and retraining, and in some cases, the separation of certain employees from the company.

“At Wipro, we take pride in holding ourselves to the highest standards. “In line with the standards, we aim to set for ourselves, we expect every entry-level employee to have a certain level of proficiency in their designated area of work,” the company said in a statement.
Sources confirmed to Moneycontrol that the cost of training employees — Rs 75,000 — has been waived for these freshers who were let go.
This comes at a time when Wipro has been delaying onboarding for new employees for several months. Last week, Chief Human Resources Officer Saurabh Govil said that onboarding would be delayed, but that the company would not renege on any offers, Moneycontrol reported.
