In a statement released today, lending and consumer payments startup slice announced the hiring of Bhawna Sangwan as its chief legal and strategy officer. Sangwan joins the business at a crucial point in its growth trajectory as it adds UPI payments to its product lineup and strives to become a one-stop shop for all things related to payments.
In a market that is evolving quickly, she will be crucial in bolstering the business’ legal, compliance, and regulatory processes. Her key goals will include consumer protection, corporate governance, rules, statutory compliance, responsible lending, and expansion plans.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this innovative, young, and spirited business that is redefining possibilities in the consumer fintech sector. I’m excited to play a significant role in the company’s upcoming phase of growth in the payments section, said Sangwan. She has over 17 years of experience, specialises in business law, and has extensive knowledge of payments, payments legislation, and corporate finance. Having worked in policymaking, regulatory compliance, privacy, and global data governance, she also brings a wealth of knowledge to the fintech industry.

She began her career at GE, where she played a crucial role in directing the compliance programme. Additionally, she has held a number of legal jobs at organisations including Amazon and Bharti Airtel NSE 1.67 per cent. She participated in numerous M&A transactions while working for Airtel and was one of the founding members of Airtel NSE 1.67 per cent Money in 2008. She also played a crucial role in the company’s acquisition of a payments licence in 2009. She recently ended her employment with Amazon, where she was instrumental in the growth of the business and in establishing the fintech division of Amazon India, which included bill payments, UPI, and the launch of a number of products related to payments acceptance, issuance, co-branded cards, and other things.
According to Rajan Bajaj, founder and CEO of the slice, “Bhawna will play a significant role in enabling us to operate with the greatest standards of ethics for sustained and responsible long-term success in the market. Bhawna joined the company just as we were about to expand into the payments sector. We need influential executives who can steer the company through a strong product range as well as to adapt to shifting governmental legislation, assuring consumer protection and data and privacy demands, as the market continues to change.
