Quick-Commerce Giants Paint the Town Green with Record Sales on Holi

Quick-commerce platforms across India experienced a vibrant surge in sales this Holi, as revelers turned to convenient delivery services to fulfill their festive needs. Companies such as Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto reported skyrocketing orders, with some even reaching their highest-ever orders per minute (OPM) levels.

Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit, expressed gratitude to customers for choosing their platform for their Holi essentials, announcing that the company hit all-time highs in orders and OPM. The demand for white tee-shirts, water guns, balloons, colors, and other festive essentials drove this surge, reflecting a growing acceptance of instant delivery services beyond groceries.

Before Holi, these quick-commerce players witnessed a surge in orders driven by Valentine’s Day celebrations, continuing a trend of peak sales during special occasions. This trend underscores the maturation of the quick-commerce sector and the increasing adoption of instant delivery services by consumers.

Aadit Palicha, CEO of Zepto, highlighted the spike in white tee-shirt sales on their platform, emphasizing that Zepto caters to a wide range of use cases beyond daily groceries.

While specific order and OPM numbers were not disclosed, it’s evident that Blinkit, with a market share of around 40 percent, likely surpassed its average of 620,000 orders per day on March 25th. Similar performance was expected from competitors like Swiggy Instamart and Zepto, according to analysts.

Phani Kishan, co-founder of Swiggy and head of Swiggy Instamart, noted a significant increase in flower orders this Holi, indicating a trend toward eco-friendly celebrations. Swiggy Instamart experienced its highest order volumes of the year, with orders per minute surpassing previous records.

Swiggy Instamart achieved a peak of 444 color packets ordered per minute, with water guns being a popular choice among customers in Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Holi, known as the festival of colors, symbolizes the victory of good over evil and is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India.
