Plant-based meat brand Sudo Foods bags seed funding from Java Capital, others

Sudo Foods, a Plant-based meat brand, located in Bengaluru, has received seed investment from Java Capital, Betaplus Capital, and famous angel investors like Ravi Saxena (MD, Wonderchef), Deep Bajaj (Co-Founder & CEO, Sirona Hygiene), & Ajay Garg (Founder & MD, Equirus Capital), among others.

Sudo Food announced its launch a few weeks ago, announcing after a year of functioning in stealth mode, its plant-based chicken and mutton meals were finally retailing on their website and prominent online platforms notably BigBasket. Sudo Foods’ ‘kind’ meat alternatives strive to ‘unjunk’ packaged food and provide delicious, healthy, and sustainable snacking options to India’s massive non-vegetarian population. Their plant-based chicken samosas, chicken seekh kebabs, chicken poppers, and mutton galouti kebabs are made with 100% plant-based components. Using seitan as well as soya with no preservatives, cholesterol, or trans fats provides its customers with foods that appear, cook, smell, and sizzle like meat, but without the harmful impact on personal & planetary health.

“Plant-based meat is one of the fastest growing businesses in the world, largely powered by ‘flexitarians’ adopting meat alternatives in addition to meat,” explains Bhargavi V, Founding Partner at Java Capital, of their investment in Sudo Foods. Taste, nutrition, affordability, convenience, and a thorough grasp of the Indian palate are all important success elements. These considerations support Sudo Foods’ case: they have decided to double down on flavor and nutrition, and their goods are geared for the Indian market. Abhinav & Sadhika have driven entrepreneurs who want to develop a major worldwide business. They have outstanding product expertise and sourcing tie-ups in such a short amount of time since start.”

Both founders, Abhinav Chawla & Sadhika Agarwal, are veteran investment bankers turned entrepreneurs who founded Sudo Foods after deciding to quit eating meat a few years ago because they were worried about their carbon footprints as well as the industrial animal farming sector. Sudo Foods Co-Founder Sadhika Agarwal says of the brand’s concept, “Much more than a commercial opportunity, it is a way of life for us.” We want to produce food that is humane, compassionate, and healthy. As a result, R&D and innovation will remain our primary priority.”

The business intends to grow its team with this cash injection to bring on board extensive experience in food technology, food manufacturing, safety, compliance, & culinary applications. Sudo’s SKUs are completely manufactured in-house, with no reliance on white label items, instead focused on generating distinctive products that standout out in an ever-expanding industry.

Sudo Foods is presently selling plant-based meat meals on its website as well as prominent online marketplaces like BigBasket, VeganDukan, & NotFoods, giving Indians a simple switch’ when it comes to delighting in meat. The firm now has four SKUs on the marketplace and a fifth that will be released soon. Agarwal and Chawla further state that while their seed financing is allocated toward R&D, innovation, & product development, their customers may expect a new product every few months.
