Pixxel, the Bengaluru-based space technology startup known for its cutting-edge hyperspectral earth-imaging technology, has been awarded a multi-crore grant from iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence under the Ministry of Defence). The grant comes as part of the Mission DefSpace Challenge under iDEX Prime (Space), and it aims to support Pixxel in manufacturing miniaturized multi-payload satellites for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The prestigious SPARK grant by iDEX will empower Pixxel to develop small satellites, weighing up to 150 kilograms, designed for various purposes such as electro-optical, infrared, synthetic aperture radar, and hyperspectral imaging. This significant milestone marks Pixxel’s commitment to revolutionizing the space industry.
Pixxel has already established itself as a leading innovator in the space tech sector, having successfully built and launched India’s and the world’s highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral imaging satellites. Leveraging its indigenous technology and expertise, which enables ease of manufacture, low cost, and ease of launch, Pixxel will now manufacture small satellites catering to the specific needs of the Indian Defense sector.
This grant represents a significant recognition of Pixxel’s contributions to the space tech industry and its potential to deliver advanced satellite solutions. By partnering with the Indian Air Force, Pixxel aims to further bolster India’s capabilities in space technology and earth observation.
