Pantomath Capital’s Mahavir Lunawat Named Chairman of AIBI


The Association of Investment Bankers of India (AIBI), the sole representative body of investment bankers to Sebi and various statutory authorities, has appointed Mahavir Lunawat, Managing Director of Pantomath Capital Advisors, as its Chairman for a two-year term starting September 2023.

The Chairman of AIBI serves as the representative of investment bankers on the Primary Market Advisory Committee (PMAC) of Sebi and actively represents members’ views, comments, and suggestions on regulatory reforms related to the capital markets.

AIBI has also announced the appointment of Arjun Mehra, Managing Director of J.M. Financial, and Prem D’Cunha, Senior Vice President & Head of ECM Execution at ICICI Securities, as its Vice Chairmen. These appointments were made during the AIBI’s Board Meeting held on September 5, 2023.

Lunawat is an industry veteran with over 20 years of experience in leading M&A and corporate restructuring projects, as well as managing more than 100 IPOs. He has held various thought leadership roles in organizations such as TiE Mumbai and the Capital Market Committee of PHD Chamber. Currently, Lunawat represents AIBI on SEBI’s Alternate Investment Policy Advisory Committee (AIPAC) and serves as a visiting faculty member at prestigious Indian institutions.

Lunawat stated, “In this rapidly evolving industry, it is imperative that we continue to advocate the orderly growth of the capital market, keep the interests of investment bankers aligned, and promote best practices through strategic measures. I am thankful to AIBI for their vote of confidence in appointing me as Chairman. This position gives me an opportunity to foster an ecosystem of innovation within the AIBI framework.”

Prithvi Haldea, Founder-Chairman of Prime Database and an Honorary Advisor to AIBI for over a decade, added, “AIBI is a thought leader and a central point for assimilating and disseminating information related to the investment banking industry. AIBI ensures that our members are well-informed about the latest regulations and guidelines issued by various statutory authorities, as well as other matters of interest. The association also plays a pivotal role in recommending dynamic changes to regulatory bodies. Over the past decade, the investment banker landscape has evolved along with the scope of work, and Mr. Lunawat’s experience across the value chain will provide renewed direction to the association and the marketplace.”

Arjun Mehra, with over 15 years of experience in investment banking, specializes in capital markets and M&A transactions. He has actively participated in consultations with regulators on various regulatory amendments. Prem D’Cunha, with more than 20 years of experience in investment banking and capital markets, has been involved in consultations with regulators on a range of issues, including offers for sale, stock exchange mechanisms, public offer guidelines for NCDs and InvITs, and stock exchange mechanisms for settlement of open offers and buybacks.
