OpenAI’s ChatGPT app is now available in India and three other countries for Android users

After much anticipation, the ChatGPT mobile app is finally available for Android users, following the iOS version’s launch two months prior. The app is currently accessible in the US, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil, with OpenAI opting for a phased rollout instead of a global release.

Last week, OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, announced the Android version’s expected release in the last week of July. Interestingly, this launch comes at a time when ChatGPT has been addressing reports of decreased traffic and slower response times.

OpenAI has plans to expand the Android app’s availability to more regions in the coming weeks. Previously exclusive to iOS users, millions of Android users can now take advantage of ChatGPT’s capabilities through the free app, which syncs user history across devices, incorporating the latest improvements from OpenAI.

ChatGPT, introduced in November 2022, has impressed the world with its remarkable human-like responses as a large language model-based chatbot. It achieved a significant milestone by amassing 100 million users in just four months since its launch, making it the fastest internet application to achieve such widespread adoption. The chatbot is built on GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, with GPT-4 currently available exclusively to ChatGPT Plus members in India who pay a monthly subscription of Rs 1,999.
