ONDC Enrolls 50,000 Restaurants on its Government-Backed Ecommerce Network

The Open Network For Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government-supported ecommerce protocol, has revealed that its network now features 50,000 restaurants across 172 cities for online ordering. The growth has been significant, with the number of restaurants joining the platform skyrocketing from 500 in February 2023 to 50,000 in August 2023. T Koshy, MD and CEO of ONDC, expressed enthusiasm for the future of online food delivery within the ecommerce ecosystem, highlighting ONDC’s pivotal role in shaping it.

ONDC’s Seller Network Participants (NPs), including Magicpin, uEngage, Bitsila, eSecond, Growth Falcons, Mystore, nStore, and eSamuday, have played a crucial role in driving restaurant onboarding and growth within the F&B category on ONDC. With plans to double the number of restaurants by the end of 2023, ONDC continues its expansion. The network facilitates food ordering through various buyer apps like Paytm, Pincode, magicpin, and Mystore.

Established in December 2021, the ONDC initiative aims to create open protocols for all digital commerce aspects, allowing transactions through any compatible application or platform. The platform fosters open and interoperable networks. Currently, 50,000 retail merchants contribute 15,000-20,000 daily transactions, while the mobility sector accounts for an additional 60,000 daily transactions. ONDC aspires to achieve 200,000 daily transactions from retail and mobility sectors by the end of the year. The network is also working on a unified scoring system for sellers, combining ratings, scores, and badges to provide a reliable metric for evaluating performance.
