Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, Reliance Industries’ digital arm, announced that Ambani would resign as the company’s director effective.
According to Reliance Jio, the company’s board of directors, approved the appointment of Akash M Ambani, non-executive director, as chairman of the board of directors of the company at a meeting on June 27.
Pankaj Mohan Pawar will take over as the company’s Managing Director. Independent directors Raminder Singh Gujral and KV Chowdary were appointed. Akash has been heavily involved in the development of the digital ecosystem surrounding Jio’s 4G offering.
Ambani stated in 2021 that his children were taking on more responsibilities as part of the leadership transition. He stated that he saw in his children the same spark and potential that his father, Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, had for contributing to the country’s growth.

Akash Ambani, a Brown University graduate with a major in Economics, has been closely involved with the disruptive and inclusive growth path charted by Reliance Group’s digital services and consumer retail propositions, and is now leading the creation of the ‘convergence dividend’ for over 500 million consumers.
Jio Platforms, an Indian technology company founded in 2019, is wholly owned by RIL. Akash was an integral part of the trailblazing global investments by tech majors and investors in 2020, which catapulted Jio onto the global investor map in many ways.
