Microsoft Appoints Puneet Chandok as Corporate VP for India & South Asia

Microsoft has announced the appointment of Puneet Chandok, former AWS India president, as the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft India and South Asia. Effective September 1, 2023, he will succeed Anant Maheshwari, who recently stepped down as India president. In his new role, Chandok will oversee the integration of Microsoft’s businesses across South Asia, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. He will also drive the company’s customer-centric approach with generative AI at its core and focus on key industries.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Chandok led AWS’s India and South Asia business, working closely with various enterprises, startups, and SMBs to drive innovation and agility. He had also been a partner at McKinsey and held senior regional and global roles in IBM.

Chandok’s move from AWS to Microsoft comes as both tech giants compete to gain market share in India’s growing cloud services sector. The market’s potential has attracted significant investments from various global players, including Google and Oracle. According to IDC estimates, India’s public cloud services market is expected to reach $13 billion by 2026, making it a key growth market for cloud service providers.
