Meet7 Raises $300K Seed Round to Revolutionize Online Dating in India

Zipdate Private Limited, the operator of Meet7, a singles’ dating platform, announced that it has raised a seed round of US$300,000. The funding round saw participation from Z1N Capital, Narendra Murkumbi, and Suhas Chandak.

Saurabh Awasthi, Co-founder, Meet7, said, “India has no dating app which caters to our sensibilities. Meet7 is changing that. The rigorous verification, where everyone is verified, the no-swipe matches, and our guided approach especially helps in our culture where people are not able to express romantic feelings appropriately. This combined with a near 50-50 gender ratio, makes our app one of the most desirable apps to be on. We will use the funds raised to scale up from current proof of concept stage and add more features to the product to make it even safer for women, while also reinforcing the differentiation from current ‘swipe’ apps, which only focus on gamification, not genuine interactions.”

Nikhil Agarwal from Z1N Capital, said, “India is the second largest revenue market and the fastest growing online dating market in the world. In the US, more than 40% of the people in relationships met online. There is no reason why this will not happen in India as well, but the right approach is required. We think the team at Meet7 has all credentials and expertise to deliver a Bharat-sensitive dating app.”

Meet7, conceptualized by IIT IIM graduates, offers a refreshing approach to online dating, particularly in India, where the prevalence of fake profiles, catfishing, and cyberbullying has posed significant challenges. The skewed gender ratio exacerbates these issues, resulting in a frustrating online dating experience, despite its evident benefits in our digital era.

With approximately 60,000 users on the app already, Meet7 has set its sights on reaching a million users within the next year.
