Kolkata-Based Startup KOZYNAP Raises Undisclosed Amount in Seed Funding Led by BeyondSeed Ventures

KOZYNAP, a Kolkata-based start-up specializing in customized mattresses, announced the successful completion of its seed funding round. The investment, whose amount remains undisclosed, was led by Singapore-based institutional investor BeyondSeed Venture Solutions Pte. Ltd (“BeyondSeed”). Notable contributors to the round include founding members of Indian unicorns and soonicorns, along with a prominent investment banker based in Dubai.
KOZYNAP’s core focus lies in manufacturing mattresses tailored to individual needs, taking into account orthopedic concerns, age, and body composition. This approach ensures optimal support and comfort for end-users. Kuldeep Mirani, Co-Founder and CEO of BeyondSeed, expressed confidence in KOZYNAP’s unique consultation-based approach for mattress purchases, addressing a significant need gap in the industry. Mirani cited the absence of players offering such customized solutions and emphasized the strength of KOZYNAP’s founding team with diverse experience and skill sets.
The brainchild of three seasoned professionals – Rajesh Singhal, Chinmoy Mallick, and Sandeep Sanyal – KOZYNAP’s mattress brand emerged during a series of brainstorming sessions amid the lockdown. The company distinguishes itself by providing the convenience and cost benefits of online purchases combined with the touch-and-feel experience of offline transactions.
The raised capital from this funding round will be allocated to expanding KOZYNAP’s presence in metros and Tier 1 cities, developing new products, enhancing IT infrastructure, and bolstering the brand. Chinmoy Mallick, Co-founder and an IIT-IIM (L) alumnus with two decades of experience in investment banking and strategic planning, highlighted the objective of offering premium mattresses at significantly lower prices through efficient production, inventory management, and logistics.
Kuldeep Mirani further commented on the evolving trends in the mattress industry in India, noting a shift towards the organized sector. The demand for quality and innovative products is on the rise, fueled by increased awareness of the impact of sleep on health. He emphasized that people are willing to invest more in a good mattress, considering its personal and health-related significance.
Rajesh Singhal, Co-founder with 25 years of experience in branding, marketing, and channel management, highlighted the personal nature of mattresses, comparing them to eyewear. Singhal emphasized the importance of understanding customer requirements and providing customization options for various aspects, including layering, shape, size, thickness, firmness level, style, and fabric design—all while respecting the customer’s budget.
Looking ahead, Singhal outlined KOZYNAP’s focus on product innovation and enhancement, with particular success in their Orthopaedic and Natural Latex Mattress ranges. The company aims to expand its presence in modern retail and the export segment as part of its future strategy.
