India wants G20 to focus on climate finance and startups


In a proud moment for all the countrymen, India will take over as Head of the G20 today focusing on forging unity, counterterrorism, startups, and climate finance among other important issues.

Several people-centric activities will mark India’s start of the summit’s presidency. It includes “University Connect” programme where External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will address students from 75 institutions. As many as 100 monuments will light up across the country with the G20 logo. The theme for India’s G20 presidency is “One Earth, One Family, One Future” and it focuses on unifying the world to address the future together. Addressing the final session of the G20 Summit in Bali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the country’s presidency will be “inclusive, ambitious, decisive and action-oriented”.

President of Indonesia Joko Widodo handed over the G20 Presidency to India at the summit in Bali on November 16. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to the world that India’s G20 presidency will be inclusive, ambitious, decisive and action-oriented.

“Together with every countries’ efforts, we can make the G20 summit a catalyst for global welfare,” PM Modi said. The United States said it is looking forward to supporting India’s G20 presidency.

“We look forward to supporting India’s G20 presidency next year on a range of issues, including addressing current food and energy security challenges while continuing our efforts to build a resilient global economy,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at her daily news conference.
