During the Bharat Startup Summit organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce, IT and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that Indian academics, engineers, and scientists have obtained 100 patents for 6G technology.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the IT and Telecom Minister, stated that “despite its complexity, Indian academics, engineers, and scientists have collectively obtained 100 patents in 6G technology. Additionally, the rollout of the 5G network has already exceeded the government’s target of covering 200 cities by March 31, 2023, with a current coverage of 397 cities.”

Vaishnaw emphasised “that achieving this level of progress requires changing thousands of systems, including governance, logistics, and banking systems, as well as transforming business methods. He also expressed that this is an opportunity for everyone to embark on a transformation journey that could help India become a $30 trillion economy.”

Ashwini Vaishnaw also mentioned that “India has commenced exporting telecom products to the US, including radio equipment in the past 7-8 months. He highlighted that 10 years ago, India imported 99% of mobile phones, but today, 99% of mobile phones in use in India are domestically manufactured.”

The development of 6G technology is focused on improving wireless communication technologies that support cellular data networks, and it is the sixth generation mobile system standard currently being developed for telecommunications.
