Fanengage Pvt Ltd, which operates the play-to-earn gaming platform Bowled.io, announced on Tuesday that cricket pundit Harsha Bhogle has joined the company as a strategic investor.
According to the firm, Bhogle will manage Bowled.io’s thought tank and help design novel forms for cricket-based games on the platform.
Bowled.io, founded last year by Rahul Singh, Akshay Khandelwal, and Neeraj Jhanjhi, is a platform where users can play games, own in-game assets, and compete in tournaments. It claims to have over 34 million hours of playtime in more than 70 countries, as well as 60 million in-game objects in circulation.
“We started with a mission to bring together cricket lovers from all over the world through the power of sports, gaming and social engagement. Bhogle’s expertise and adroit understanding of the sports ecosystem will help us grow Bowled.io and connect with sports fans globally,” Singh said.

“Strategy-based games have always piqued my interest since they let people compete with one another and get more involved,” said Bhogle.
Bowled.io raised an undisclosed amount in its pre-seed round from a group of investors last year. It has already signed Axie Infinity as a strategic investor and platform partner.
For quite some time, India’s gaming business has been attracting investors’ attention. Giga Fun Studios, a Bengaluru-based game firm, raised $2.4 million in a seed round led by Lumikai, with participation from Fireside Ventures, last week.
In another case, fantasy sports platform Podeum received $1 million in pre-seed funding from a group of investors that included Titan Capital. Lumikai, a gaming-focused venture firm, said in November that the Indian gaming industry had a 380% increase in funding from 2019 to 2020.
However, in December, Google and Temasek-backed ShareChat fantasy gaming portal Jeet11 was shut down.
The profit of fantasy sports website Dream11 fell 56.7% to Rs 142 crore in the fiscal year FY22, from Rs 327.1 crore the previous fiscal.
