Gaming Startup LightFury Raises $8.5M in Seed Funding Round

LightFury Games, a burgeoning gaming startup, announced its successful completion of a seed funding round, securing an impressive $8.5 million. The round saw participation from esteemed investors including Blume Ventures, Mixi Inc, and Gemba Capital, alongside notable angel investors Kunal Shah and Gaurav Munjal.

LightFury Games, helmed by Co-founder Karan Shroff, former Chief Marketing Officer and Partner at Unacademy, aims to channel these funds towards the development of AAA (triple-A) games within India. Shroff expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Creating successful AAA titles in the Indian market and establishing a Tencent-like presence originating from India, is what we are excited to bring to the fore.”

Joining Shroff in this venture are seasoned industry experts Anurag Banerjee and Tina Balachandran. Banerjee, a veteran in the gaming industry with an illustrious career spanning companies like GAME7, Ubisoft, and WB Games Montreal Inc, brings invaluable experience in developing high-profile AAA games such as Assassin’s Creed, Batman’s Arkham Asylum, and Suicide Squad. Balachandran, formerly associated with Unacademy and Tencent Games, further strengthens the team’s expertise.

“The ability to piece together the talent and bring in believers from the gaming and consumer universe make it one of our most exciting investments we’ve made in this space,” remarked Karthik Reddy, Co-founder and Managing Director at Blume Ventures, underscoring the significance of LightFury Games’ mission.

With plans to harness top-tier expertise and state-of-the-art technological innovations, LightFury Games is poised to elevate the gaming landscape in India. The infusion of capital will not only facilitate game development but also fuel expansion efforts, including talent acquisition both in India and the UK.
