Game Theory Acquires Matchday.ai to Advance AI Capabilities

Game Theory, the innovative sports gaming startup backed by Nithin Kamath, has recently completed the acquisition of Matchday.ai, a sports analytics startup. The strategic move, effective from October 28, is set to fortify Game Theory’s prowess in artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision. This acquisition is particularly significant for Game Theory, enhancing its technology stack, accelerating time to market, and welcoming key talent into the fold.

Game Theory recently secured $2 million in a pre-Series A funding round, with Nithin Kamath’s Rainmatter leading the investment. The startup, established in 2018, endeavors to provide users with immersive and competitive real sports experiences through a video-game-like format. The integration of Matchday.ai’s technology will play a pivotal role in refining Game Theory’s matchmaking algorithms and enhancing user experiences.

Sudeep Kulkarni, Founder of Game Theory, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, “Matchday has developed incredible computer vision technology. The world’s top athletes have used it to help improve their game. Game Theory will now bring this technology to everyday players. We can now not just identify micro improvements for casual real sports players but also function as a tech-first scout for building India’s future athletes.”

Rakesh Bordia, Partner at Prequate Advisory, which led the M&A, emphasized the significance of this acquisition in leveraging technology for real sports, an opportunity that remains largely untapped.
