Former Unacademy COO Vivek Sinha’s Startup Beyond Odds Technologies Raises $11M in Seed Funding

Beyond Odds Technologies, founded by former Unacademy COO Vivek Sinha, has successfully secured $11 million in seed funding. The funding round was led by prominent investors including Matrix Partners India and Lightspeed, among others.

The startup, with a vision to bridge the gap in skilled workforce shortages both domestically and globally, aims to establish a comprehensive platform focusing on training, certification, and recruitment for grey-collar jobs.

“Our platform will address the shortages in skilled workforce in both domestic and global markets by creating high-quality supply from India. Our first initiative, ‘Emversity,’ is a higher education brand that helps universities integrate their degrees with industry-relevant skills,” remarked Vivek Sinha, Founder and CEO of Beyond Odds Technologies.

Emversity, the flagship initiative of Beyond Odds, is set to offer undergraduate courses in allied health sciences, catering to the pressing need for skilled diagnostic and scanning lab technicians. The company plans to establish seven centers across key cities including Hyderabad, Delhi, Nagpur, Kochi, and Ranchi, with the inaugural center slated to open in Bengaluru this month.

“Our courses also come with ‘built-in income’, so candidates do not have to wait for completion of their formal higher education to earn their first pay cheque. Other features of these courses include ‘work abroad integrated’ modules, and extensive placement assistance,” Sinha added.

Beyond Odds Technologies envisions extending its footprint into education, hospitality, and construction sectors, aiming to train a job-ready workforce through high-standard, tech-enabled programs in collaboration with industry partners and physical centers.

Harsha Kumar, Partner at Lightspeed, highlighted the pivotal role Beyond Odds plays in addressing the current challenges faced by the Indian education system. “Today, India experiences a unique situation where we have an expanding workforce supply but a talent and skills gap across industries. Beyond Odds recognises and aims to tackle these limitations of the current education system. By enabling vocational skills-based education among students in partnership with public and private partnerships, they’re solving both the demand and supply problems in college education today.”

Emversity has already forged strategic partnerships with leading healthcare institutions such as Fortis Hospitals and Core Diagnostics, tailoring its courses to meet industry skill demands and provide promising placement opportunities for students.

With a commitment to quality education and industry relevance, Beyond Odds Technologies aims to set new benchmarks in vocational training and workforce development, empowering individuals to thrive in the rapidly evolving job market.
