Exciting News: iPhone 15 Production Gears Up at Foxconn Plant in India

Apple‘s upcoming iPhone 15 is reportedly set to be manufactured in Tamil Nadu, India, in an effort to boost the volume of new iPhones coming from the country. A Foxconn plant in Sriperumbudur is preparing to produce the new devices shortly after their launch in China. This move aims to reduce the gap between operations in India and China. The iPhone 15, expected to be announced on September 12, 2023, is anticipated to feature significant updates, the most substantial in three years.

The production scale in India will depend on the availability of components, many of which are imported. Production lines at the Chennai facility have been scaled up. Before the iPhone 14, Apple’s Indian assembly was significantly delayed compared to China, but this gap has been minimized, with 7% of iPhones produced in India by the end of March.

Apple’s goal is to achieve closer parity in shipment timing between India and China, although suppliers remain uncertain about achieving this, according to sources. Other Apple suppliers in India, including Pegatron Corp. and a Wistron Corp. factory soon to be acquired by the Tata Group, will also assemble the iPhone 15.

Additionally, Apple plans to commence production of its AirPods wireless earbuds at a Foxconn facility in Hyderabad. The Hyderabad plant, with a $400 million investment by Foxconn, is expected to begin mass production by December 2024.

Apple already assembles non-Pro iPhones in India with partners including Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron. AirPods will be the second product category made in India, following the iPhone.

The iPhone 15 is anticipated to introduce exciting features, including the Dynamic Island feature for a punch-hole display, a sleeker design, and a larger display. Pro models are expected to feature Apple’s next-generation A17 Bionic chip, while standard models will likely have an A16 Bionic chip. The iPhone 15 Pro variants might have a baseline storage capacity of 256GB.

Pricing is expected to differ between models. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could maintain their prices, while Pro models might experience price increases. The iPhone 15 series is projected to launch on September 13, although another report suggests the date could be either September 13 or September 12.
