Elon Musk Launches X.AI Corporation: New Artificial Intelligence Company Emerges in Nevada, United States, According to Business Documents

According to recently discovered business documents, Elon Musk founded the artificial intelligence company X.AI Corporation in the US state of Nevada.

The documents, which were found on Friday, according to media reports, list Musk as the director of the business, which was established on March 9th according to the state’s business filing. In addition, Musk also serves as the CEO of Twitter and Tesla at the moment.

Earlier on Friday, the Financial Times reported, citing sources familiar with Elon Musk’s plans, that the billionaire was developing an artificial intelligence start-up to compete with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI.

Musk recently combined Twitter with a brand-new shell company called “X,” keeping the brand name but getting rid of the core operation. Despite Musk’s previous call for a halt in AI development, this move is seen as a potential rival to OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT.

Musk reportedly made significant cost-cutting measures, such as layoffs, while also investing in potent computing processors and hiring engineering talent for a Twitter AI project.

It’s important to note that X.AI was established before Musk signed an open letter calling for a six-month hiatus in the creation of potent AI systems. The letter was published on the website of the Future of Life Institute, a project Musk funded.

Microsoft Corp, Alphabet Inc, and other companies are actively integrating Generative AI, the cutting-edge technology that powers the popular chatbot ChatGPT, into their products and services.

The billionaire Tesla chief and other luminaries wrote that “AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity.”

According to the Financial Times, Musk has purchased thousands of graphics processing units from Nvidia Corp. These systems power the computing necessary for demanding tasks like AI and advanced graphics. On Friday, the news increased shares of the chip company, which declined to comment on the situation.

According to state filings, Musk recently established a business called X.AI Corp. in Nevada, where he is listed as the only director and Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk’s family office, is listed as the secretary.

It’s unclear whether this business is associated with Musk’s rumoured AI start-up endeavours, and Musk hasn’t responded to Reuters’ request for comment. In 2015, OpenAI was founded as a non-profit, with Musk serving as one of its co-founders.

It remains uncertain if this newly established company is related to Elon Musk’s reported involvement in AI startups, and Reuters’ request for comment from Musk has not received a response. Musk, who was a co-founder of OpenAI, originally established as a non-profit in 2015, resigned from the company’s board in 2018.
