Edutainment platform Jeel raises $1.1 million in seed funding led by EdVentures

EdVentures, the venture capital arm of Egypt-based learning enterprise Nahdet Misr Publishing Group, led the $1.1 million funding round for edtech startup Jeel.  An educational platform for young children is called Jeel. The 2020 business, founded by Ahmed Sobaih, offers preschoolers instructional materials that were developed with the aid of teachers and psychologists.

Together with HolonIQ, a US-based impact market intelligence platform, EdVentures recently organized a seminar on the future of edtech in the Middle East and North Africa. The desire to alter the edtech industry prompted the learning platform to launch EdVentures in 2017, according to Dalia Ibrahim, CEO of Nahdet Misr Publishing House and founder of EdVentures, who spoke in a Wamda report.

So far, the fund has assisted more than 66 startups and invested in more than 13 businesses, with plans to expand globally.

According to data from HolonIQ, with over 1,500 businesses, Egypt has the highest percentage of edtech startups in the area, followed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Following K–12 and higher education, a substantial amount of this focuses on innovations in corporate and workforce training. But prekindergarten only accounts for a tiny fraction of the entire picture.

Additionally, the US-based corporation released a list of the top 50 edtech startups in the area. Nine startups from EdVentures’ portfolio were represented by this.
