Consumer Complaints Made Easy with ChatGPT Technology

According to a senior official, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs is exploring the use of ChatGPT to facilitate the lodging of complaints on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH). This mechanism would allow consumers to submit complaints via text messages or voice notes, thereby simplifying the process for those who have been wronged. The official, who spoke anonymously, highlighted the potential of ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by US-based OpenAI, to provide easy-to-understand responses to complex queries. Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT leverages artificial intelligence to deliver a conversational and user-friendly experience.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has reportedly held discussions with OpenAI to explore how ChatGPT technology can be used to simplify the process of lodging complaints on the National Consumer Helpline. The Ministry is also considering using AI to help consumers file cases with consumer commissions. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electronics and IT is developing a ChatGPT-powered WhatsApp chatbot to assist farmers in learning about government schemes. Other companies are also integrating AI into their services, with Microsoft planning to incorporate ChatGPT technology into its Edge browser and Bing search, and Google launching its own AI-powered chatbot, Bard.
