Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the selection of seven Indian generative AI startups to join its prestigious AWS Global Generative AI Accelerator programme. The startups—Convrse, House of Models, NeuralGarage, Orbo.ai, Phot.ai, Unscript AI, and Zocket—are among 80 companies worldwide chosen for their innovative use of artificial intelligence (AI) and their aspirations for global expansion.
“We are thrilled to announce the seven Indian startups that have been selected for the AWS global generative AI accelerator program. The Indian cohort represents the highest number of startups selected for the accelerator in the Asia-Pacific and Japan region. The selected startups are at the forefront of tapping into the transformative potential of generative AI to build innovative solutions,” said Amitabh Nagpal, Head, Startup Business Development, AWS India.
The Indian cohort also marks the largest number of startups selected from a single country in the Asia-Pacific region for the AWS Global Generative AI Accelerator programme. The selected startups will have the opportunity to showcase their solutions on a global platform at AWS’ annual event, re
, in Las Vegas.
In June, AWS committed $230 million to support startups globally in the development of generative AI applications. This investment aims to empower emerging AI ventures by offering AWS resources, guidance, and tools to accelerate their AI-powered innovations.
According to data from PitchBook, as of 2024, over 1,813 AI and machine learning startups in India have collectively raised more than $82 billion in investments. However, only 35% of generative AI companies globally have established offices outside of their headquarters. The Asia-Pacific region alone has seen over $2.5 billion raised by generative AI startups in 2024, surpassing the combined total of the previous three years.
“Asia-Pacific-based generative AI companies have raised over $2.5 billion in 2024, more than the prior three years combined,” said Brendan Burke, Senior Analyst, Emerging Technology Research at PitchBook. “Developers and startups are seizing the opportunity to train custom models based on unique cultural and linguistic data. Additionally, leading AI researchers are working on a diversity of transformer models in multimodal domains including 3D images, interactive media, and synthetic voice. The future of AI applications will rely on specialized model architectures and startups will need world-class cloud infrastructure to fulfill their vision,” he added.
The AWS Generative AI Accelerator programme provides early-stage startups with AWS credits, mentorship, and education to maximize their use of AI and machine learning. Startups benefit from access to AWS’s advanced compute, storage, and database technologies, including AWS Trainium and AWS Inferentia2, high-performance AI chips designed for cost-effective operations. The credits also support services like Amazon SageMaker, which aids in building and training foundational models, and Amazon Bedrock, a platform that provides tools for developing generative AI applications securely and efficiently.
In India, AWS has introduced initiatives such as the AWS GenAI Loft in Bengaluru, a pop-up space designed to promote AI innovation. This initiative offered a platform for startups and developers to explore real-world applications of generative AI across various industries.
