Amazon India Launches “Aurora” Program to Empower Individuals with Learning Disabilities

Amazon India has unveiled the “Aurora” program. This initiative aims to harness the talents of individuals with learning disabilities, providing them with employment opportunities within the e-commerce giant.

The program has already undergone a successful pilot phase in collaboration with the Mumbai-based non-profit organization, Sol ARC. The pilot involved engaging a group of young adults in Amazon’s delivery stations across key cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Amazon India, in an official statement, highlighted its commitment to building a diverse workforce that mirrors its expansive customer base. The “Aurora” program is not only focused on hiring individuals with learning disabilities but also prioritizes establishing a robust support system. This includes laying the groundwork for increased employee awareness and encouraging Amazon employees to act as allies to those with learning disabilities.

Liju Thomas, Director of HR Operations at Amazon India, emphasized the company’s dedication to creating opportunities for underrepresented cohorts. The launch of “Aurora” underscores Amazon’s commitment to cultivating a workplace that is not only diverse but also inclusive and equitable.

“We are passionate about creating a diverse workforce to reflect our customer base and ensure we tap into their diverse perspectives. We strongly believe that diversity in the workplace helps create a better, more inclusive environment, and we are invested to create opportunities for the underrepresented cohorts,” stated Liju Thomas.
