Amagi purchases Streamwise to strengthen its streaming data analytics offerings

Amagi, a media-tech unicorn, announced on November 22 that it has acquired Streamwise, a US-based data platform for content distributors, for an undisclosed sum to bolster its streaming data analytics offerings. This is Amagi’s first purchase, and it comes about a week after the media technology startup from Bengaluru revealed that it had secured a $100 million investment from private equity firm General Atlantic at a valuation of $1.4 billion. Although the acquisition’s details were not made public, Amagi said in a statement that Streamwise CEO Doug Shineman will manage business development for the company’s new analytics division.

“What content brands need now more than ever is information at their fingertips. The genius of Streamwise’s data platform lies in its simplicity and accessibility, making it an excellent value addition to Amagi’s server-side ad insertion-based ad offerings. Together, we can enable content brands to shape their programming, optimize their distribution, and generate better ROI,” Amagi, a founding member of Baskar Subramanian, said.

Amagi, a company founded in 2008 by Subramanian, Srinivasan KA, and Srividhya Srinivasan, provides a suite of solutions that allow content owners to launch, distribute, and monetize live linear channels and on-demand channels across platforms for free television and video services supported by advertisements. Cloudport and Thunderstorm are two of the business divisions of the corporation that stand out. Launching and managing broadcast-quality live, linear channels is made possible by Cloudport for broadcast and streaming TV networks.

Thunderstorm is a platform for dynamic ad insertion and ad detection that assists clients with content delivery in terms of analytics and monetization. It includes a variety of performance indicators on viewership and ad interaction for content brands using it for revenue generation.

Amagi claims that as a result of this acquisition, the firm will be able to combine its own data with that of third parties in order to give centralized, automated, actionable business insights to content companies as well as comprehensive, unified analytics. Customers who will be able to subscribe to these solutions in the upcoming months will be able to purchase Streamwise capabilities from Amagi as a stand-alone offering, the company said.

“Our combined offering will help content distributors make smart decisions and scale their business in the streaming economy by saving content, sales, marketing, and finance executives from repetitive, manual, and error-prone processes,” Shineman said in a statement. Across more than 40 countries, Amagi serves over 2,100 channel deliveries, over 800 playout chains, and more than 700 content companies. It counts NBC Universal, The Roku Channel, Vice Media, ABS-CBN, AccuWeather, A+E Networks UK, Cinedigm, Cox Media Group, Crackle Plus, Fremantle, Gannett, Gusto TV, and Tastemade as its clients.
