In a significant move to enhance passenger convenience, Air India has announced a partnership with Delhi Metro and Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) to introduce a new check-in facility for international passengers. This service, which is currently available for domestic travelers, will now be extended to international flyers, allowing them to check in and drop off their baggage at two metro stations in Delhi.
The new facility will be operational at the New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium metro stations from 7 am to 9 pm daily. Passengers can check in their baggage at these metro stations, enabling outstation travelers to explore the city without the burden of carrying their luggage. During this time, their baggage will be securely transported and loaded onto the aircraft through an advanced automated system developed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and DIAL.
“This initiative not only provides a cost-effective option for travellers coming from distant locations but also helps control congestion at the airport, leading to a better experience for all our customers. This initiative will significantly enhance the convenience of our customers,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India.
The check-in service can be utilized 12 hours to 2 hours prior to flight departure for domestic itineraries, and four to two hours prior to departure for international flights. The metro rail operates with a frequency of 10 minutes, and it takes approximately 19 minutes to reach the departure level at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3, making the travel process faster and more hassle-free for passengers.
By partnering with Delhi Metro and DIAL, Air India aims to provide a seamless travel experience that reduces congestion at the airport and offers a practical solution for travelers with early arrivals or long layovers.
