Men’s Hockey Team Wins A Bronze In The Tokyo 2020 Olympics


A wonderful start to the day for Indians, and Men’s Indian Hockey Team wins a BRonze, playing against no less a team than GErmany. It had been a nail biting match as both teams played head to head, not giving an inch to the opponent. What a  pleasure it has been to watch the Men in Blue,  nail such an important and difficult match. This medal is significant in more than one way – this is India’s medal after a long gap since the 1980’s nad 12th overall medal. The Men’s Hockey team had been in wonderful form since the beginning of the tournament, and they were also most on the cusp of history by qualifying to the semi finals, but they lost 5-2 to Belgium.

But, what a comeback !! The Germans had taken a lead in 2 mins of the match. India recovered and drew level in quick time, two minutes into the second quarter when Simranjeet scored via a field goal to make it one-all. However, in the 24th minute, Niklas Mellen restored his team’s one-goal advantage. A minute later 2-1 became 3-1 with Benedikt Furk scoring a field goal of his own. Indians now gave their full. Hardik Singh scored a couple of minutes later with Indian converting a penalty corner to make it 3-2. Riding the momentum, they won another penalty corner two minutes later and Harmanpreet Singh made no mistake to make it 3-3. In the third quarter, India took a lead of 5-3 and in the final quarter, Germany looking for an equaliser made it to 5-4 from a Penalty Corner, but Indian’s were too good today, as they went on to win the match, bagging the fourth medal for India at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
