This Startup Applied For ‘Meta’ Trademark Before Facebook

Just last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that they have decided to change Facebook’s parent company’s name to “Meta ”. However, another company has come into the picture saying that it had already purchased the Meta trademark back in August this year. A US-based startup company known as “Meta PC” selling disk drivers, keyboards and other computer accessories might soon be running into a legal battle head to head with the multi-billion company Facebook.

Meta founder Zach Shutt and the co-founder have told news reporters that they might be willing to let the meta trademark go, only if Facebook is ready to pay the price of 20 million dollars for that. The fact that the trademark was filed by Meta PC about 4 months back and was using the brand ever since November last year, made us think, will Zuckerberg get the name for the parent company? It is common for a change in the name to come up with such problems, for instance when the company changed their Instagram handle they couldn’t go with “Meta” as it was already in use by another organisation, and so Zuckerberg had to go with the name “@wearemeta” instead.
