Anthropic to Open First India Office in 2026 as Demand for AI Tools Grows

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, backed by Alphabet’s Google and Amazon, announced plans to open its first office in India in early 2026. This move aims to capitalize on the country’s growing demand for AI tools and services.

Strategic Move to Bengaluru

The new office will be situated in Bengaluru, widely recognized as India’s technology hub. This location will serve as Anthropic’s second office in the Asia Pacific region, following Tokyo. The decision underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in key global markets.

Growth in AI Adoption

India, with nearly a billion internet users, has become a significant market for AI technologies. The country’s increasing enterprise tech spending, a growing pool of skilled talent, and rising investor interest are contributing to the rapid adoption of AI tools. Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, has emerged as the company’s second-largest consumer market, competing with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and noted for its strong coding capabilities.

Future Plans

Co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei is scheduled to visit India to meet with public officials and corporate partners, aiming to strengthen the company’s ties with the Indian market. Anthropic has also announced plans to triple its international workforce to meet the surge in demand for its AI models outside the United States.
