Agrima Infotech, a DeepTech firm, has been acquired by BigBasket.


BigBasket, a homegrown grocery retailer, revealed on Saturday that it has acquired Agrima Infotech, a business that helps food and retail companies create sophisticated digital solutions at scale, on the sidelines of Kerala Startup Mission’s (KSUM) two-day startup tech event ‘Huddle Global 2022.’

At the self-checkout counters of BigBasket’s retail outlets, Kochi-based company Agrima Infotech’s unique consumer vision technology platform, Psyight, will be implemented.

Psyight, developed by Agrima Infotech’s Anoop Balakrishnan, Arun Ravi, and Nikhil Dharman, enables identify all Indian fruits and vegetables from a picture without the need of barcodes.

BigBasket

Balakrishnan, cofounder and CEO of Agrima Infotech, believes that his company’s partnership with BigBasket would revolutionize the offline shopping experience in India.

BigBasket inaugurated its first technology-driven self-service physical shop, Fresho, in Bengaluru in November of last year.

By fiscal year 2023, the Bengaluru-based online grocer intends to build 200 physical locations throughout the country. Menon stated that the company plans to expand to 800 outlets by 2026.
