GIMS Medical Innovation Centre Launches ‘INDIA DESIGN 🇮🇳’ National Initiative

At the UP International Trade Show 2026, the GIMS Medical Innovation Centre launched its national initiative ‘INDIA DESIGN ’ at the GIMS stall. The initiative was formally launched by Director GIMS, Brigadier Dr. Rakesh Gupta.

Inspired by global innovation ecosystems such as Harvard Innovation Labs and Y Combinator, but designed around India’s healthcare needs, the initiative aims to create a hospital-centred model for MedTech innovation.

The core philosophy is simple: every MedTech innovation should begin with a real clinical problem, bringing together doctors, hospitals, engineers, researchers, industry, regulators and investors to co-create solutions.

Clinical Problem → Co-Creation → Design → Prototype → Clinical Validation → Regulatory Readiness → Manufacturing → Scale

Through INDIA DESIGN, GIMS Medical Innovation Centre aims to connect Medical Colleges, Hospitals, IITs, NITs, Engineering & Design Institutions, Research Organisations, Startups, Industry, Regulators and Investors through a national innovation network.

Dr. Rahul Singh, CEO, GIMS Medical Innovation Centre, said: “We have drawn inspiration from global innovation ecosystems, but have designed a model suited to India’s healthcare realities. INDIA DESIGN seeks to make the hospital not merely a site for testing technology, but the starting point for identifying problems, co-creating solutions and enabling clinical validation.”
