Zomato has entered into a year-long sponsorship agreement with Indian boxer and mixed martial artist Neeraj Goyat. The partnership underscores Zomato’s commitment to promoting athletic excellence in professional boxing and nurturing talent in underrepresented sports.
According to the company’s statement, Zomato will provide financial and nutritional support to Goyat and offer guidance, if required. “This victory is ours, Zomato. Thank you for believing in me and standing by my side. Grateful to have you in my corner and happy to be a part of the Zomato family,” said Goyat, expressing his gratitude for the collaboration.
Neeraj Goyat has been a trailblazer for Indian boxing, earning accolades such as ‘India’s Most Promising Boxer’ in 2008. He became the first Indian boxer to achieve a World Boxing Council (WBC) ranking and was named WBC Asia’s ‘Honorary Boxer of the Year’ in 2017. Recently, he made history at the Paul vs. Tyson mega event on November 15, 2024, winning with a score of 60-54 on all three judges’ scorecards.
The sponsorship also reflects Zomato’s growing interest in sports branding. The agreement was hinted at during a joint appearance by Goyat and Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal on The Kapil Sharma Show, where Goyat’s inspiring comeback story from a severe car accident in 2019 resonated with Goyal.
“This partnership aims to inspire Goyat to excel at the highest level of professional boxing and encourage aspiring athletes across India,” said Zomato in its statement. “By backing him, Zomato is also committed to elevating the profile of underrepresented sports and athletes in the country.”
Zomato’s focus on uplifting athletes aligns with its broader efforts to support its delivery partners. The company recently developed a framework, in consultation with delivery partners and experts, to address their financial, social, physical, mental, and professional needs.
